Safety Instructions
IMPORTANT
This product is not fail-safe.
Therefore, it must not be used in life-support systems and other safety-critical applications without further risk assessment and conformity evaluation!
Intended Use
The modules of the MFR series serve as interface components to connect digital inputs and outputs (24V level) with IT interfaces (Ethernet, USB, RS232).
- The modules are designed for use in industrial environments (DIN rail mounting).
- Installation must only be carried out by qualified specialist personnel.
- The modules must be installed in a suitable enclosure (e.g., control cabinet) to ensure protection against contact and environmental influences.
Machinery Directive
If installation is intended in a machine or system to which the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC (or its successors) applies, it must be ensured that the relevant regulations continue to be met after installation.
The operator of the system is responsible for compliance with EMC directives and the safety regulations of the overall system.
Electrical Safety & Power Supply
Separation of Logic and Load
The modules have two separate power supplies:
- Logic Supply: 8 .. 30 VDC (Supplies the microcontroller and the interface).
- Load Supply: Supplies the outputs (only relevant for output power in L-series, for relay coils in R-series).
Specific Notes by Module Type
L-Series (Semiconductor)
The outputs of the L-series switch the applied load voltage through (High-side switching). Only extra-low voltage (max. 30 VDC) may be connected here.
R-Series (Relay)
The modules of the R-series (XSP01R, XEP01R, XUP01R, XSP11R) have potential-free relay contacts. According to the datasheet, these are specified for switching capacities up to:
- 3A @ 24 VDC
- 3A @ 250 VAC
Danger to life due to electric voltage: Particular caution is required when switching 230 V AC mains voltage at the relay outputs. Ensure that the system is de-energized during installation work. Observe the applicable VDE regulations for work on mains voltage.
Galvanic Isolation
To protect the connected IT systems (PC, network), the interfaces are isolated as follows:
- Inputs: Galvanically isolated via optocouplers.
- Outputs (L-Series): Galvanically isolated via optocouplers.
- Outputs (R-Series): Galvanically isolated via relay contacts.
