Safety Instructions

IMPORTANT

This product is not fail-safe.

Do not use it in life-support systems or other safety-critical applications unless the complete application has undergone an appropriate risk assessment and conformity evaluation.

Intended Use

MFR-series modules connect 24 V digital inputs and outputs to Ethernet, USB, or RS-232 interfaces.

  • The modules are designed for industrial environments and DIN-rail mounting.
  • Only qualified personnel may install the modules.
  • Install the modules in a suitable enclosure, such as a control cabinet, to protect them from accidental contact and environmental exposure.

Machinery Directive

If a module is installed in a machine or system governed by the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC or successor legislation, the complete machine or system must continue to meet all applicable requirements after installation.

The system operator is responsible for ensuring that the complete system complies with the applicable EMC and safety requirements.

Electrical Safety & Power Supply

Separation of Logic and Load

The modules have two separate power supplies:

  1. Logic supply: 8–30 VDC for the microcontroller and communication interface.
  2. Load supply: Powers the solid-state outputs in L-series modules or the relay coils in R-series modules.

Specific Notes by Module Type

L-Series (Semiconductor)

The L-series outputs are high-side switches that switch the connected load voltage. Connect only extra-low voltage (maximum 30 VDC) to these outputs.

R-Series (Relay)

The R-series modules (XSP01R, XEP01R, XUP01R, XSP11R) have potential-free relay contacts rated for loads up to:

  • 3 A at 24 VDC
  • 3 A at 250 VAC

Danger to life from electric shock: Take particular care when switching 230 VAC mains voltage at the relay outputs. De-energize and secure the system before installation or maintenance. Follow all applicable regulations for work on mains voltage.

Galvanic Isolation

To protect the connected IT systems (PC, network), the interfaces are isolated as follows:

  • Inputs: Galvanically isolated via optocouplers.
  • Outputs (L-Series): Galvanically isolated via optocouplers.
  • Outputs (R-Series): Galvanically isolated via relay contacts.
